ASSIGNMENT
We were asked to design a new product concept for the company ¨Invented 4 Kids¨ which designs innovative products for parents with young children. We had to define our own design goal, the one we came up with was: We wanted to help parents teach their children when it is time to wake up and when to go to bed.
DESIGN VISION
Besides a design goal we also used a vision based on market research, our vision was: We want to give parents the possibility to have moments alone with their children where they only pay attention to each other (quality time).
CONCEPT
After a long idea generation we used one of mine ideas. As you can see in the images above it is a hour glass that represents day and night: the sun and the moon. The hour glass is used in the sleeping rooms of the children as an indication of time. When it is night, you turn the hour glass so that the sun is above and the moon down. The moon gets more and more filled with sand. At the end of the night; when it is time to wake up, the sun is visible. And in reverse during day. We made a simplified model, because in the real concept the parents are able to adjust the time and reset the hour glass. The hour glass can only be turned when the child and parent pull the handles at the same time.
